2.0 Website Design…Guidelines For Beginners
When buiding and publishing your own websites there are few key things that you should always keep in mind. And they are as follow:
1. Artwork and Graphics
Always keep your artwork and your graphic desingns neat and atrative to your viewers. This is one of the major mistakes that I have been comming across sinse I have been in the Internet Marketing business. So please take the time that is needed, to do a job that you can be proud of.., keeping it pleasant to your viewers eyes.
2. Formating your copy {Text}
When you are writing the copy for your website you sould make it an easy read. Try your best to keep it as plain and simple as you posibly can. Do not get cuaght up in the look of lot of websites that you have come across that are wordy and boring.
Note: Sometimes less is best, because you want to direct, and drive, your reader to the most important issues.
Again I stress… make sure that your text can be easily read. Don’t you just hate when you are atempting to read a webpage and the text is running off the browser screen? This is so anoying to me!
There is really no need to atempt to put everything that you have to say, or offer, on one page. That is unless you you are running a bunch of mini-sites. Remeber this is the Internet, so utilize it’s options. That is to say use multiple pages on you website or you can use multiple domains, or sub-domains, to express yourself to your readers and prospective customers.
3. Using Sidebars
Sidebars are kinda tricky, they can help you make a good website, or help you to destroy what could be a potentially great website.
When using sidebars, I believe it is important to choose one side of the page, the left side, or the right side. Now this is not to say that you can’t use both. But seeing that we live in America and we read from left to right, well… most of us anyway. Therefore I prefer to use the left side.
Note: Which ever side you choose to use left side, right side, or both, be sure not to use to much, and try your best to keep it revelant to the main theme or sales pitch. Remember if this is not done correctly it will cause your viewers to be destracted and you will not get your point across.
4. Positioning Images whithin your Text.
The positioning of images is another major aspect of your website design. This also can make the diference between an atractive or not so atractive web page.
When placing your images, this also must be done strategicaly and with a little finesse. It is important to make sure that the image or images does not hender the reader, or this can be another major draw back which can eliminate you from getting your point acroos.
Make sure that your images are also revelant to what you are expressing or selling. For example: If you were selling hotdogs, would you embed an image of a fish aruond your text? I’m sure you get the point.
Note: Make your images clickable if you can. Hey… what can I say? People love to click images.
5.Last but not all the least of it. You must have an Editor.
Be sure to have someone read over your copy before you atempt to publish it. This will make sure that you are not publishing work with bad grammer, or mis-spelled words. Besides that a good editor makes us look smarter than we really are. LOL. So unless you are an english major get yourself a good editor.
That’s it for now. I hope you have much success, and that this was a good and easy read for you.
